Lore & Background
The club was founded in 1872 as a gymnastics club named Società Sportiva Costantino Reyer by gymnastics teacher Peter Gallo in Venice. Its basketball section was established in 1925. Reyer won back-to-back Italian league titles in the 1941–42 and 1942–43 seasons, and also won the championship in 1944, though that victory was not approved by the Italian Federation. Under the name Carrera Venezia, the club reached the final of the 1980–81 FIBA Korać Cup, losing 104–105 to Joventut Freixenet in Barcelona on March 19.
Reader's Guide
Reyer Venezia is significant as one of Italy's oldest basketball clubs, with a history stretching back to the early 20th century. Its four Italian league championships—won in 1942, 1943, 2017, and 2019—place it among the country's most successful teams. The club's first European trophy came in the 2017–18 FIBA Europe Cup, where it defeated fellow Italian side Sidigas Avellino in the finals. Reyer also won its first Italian Cup in the 2019–20 season. The team's 2016–17 championship marked its return to the top after a 73-year gap, and it reached the Basketball Champions League Final Four that same season. The club's legacy includes both domestic and European achievements, reflecting its sustained competitiveness in Italian and international basketball.
