The team won the 2007–08 regular season but failed to advance to the Divisione Nazionale A until it purchased Lumezzane’s sporting rights in 2009. For its first season in the third division, former player Vincenzo Esposito was hired as coach, guiding the club to ninth place. Buscaglia returned in 2010, leading the side to eighth, but league contraction forced the team into relegation playoffs, which it lost. However, Trento—having already confirmed Buscaglia—received a wildcard to remain at that level. On 18 January 2012, Luigi Longhi replaced Zobele as president. Later that 2011–12 season, Trento earned promotion to LegaDue by beating BLS Chieti 3–1 in the semifinals on 27 May 2012, then won the league title by defeating Ferentino in the final. The club adapted quickly to the professional second division, reaching the promotion playoffs that same season. In 2013–14, it finished first in the regular season, earning direct promotion to Serie A as regular-season champions.
