The parent organization, Associazione Ginnastica Senese "Mens Sana in Corpore Sano 1871", was started on 16 April 1871 by university students. Basketball first appeared in May 1907 at a gymnastics competition in Venice, where teacher Ida Nomi Pesciolini led a women’s team in a demonstration. In 1978–79, Antonini Siena reached the Serie A quarterfinals, qualifying for the 1979–80 FIBA Korać Cup, where they advanced to the Round of 16.
